This CAN based 12bit 8 Channel Analogue to Digital Unit measures 0-5V in 0.003V increments at up to 333Hz. A 10k pull down resistor for each channel means it can be connected to resistance-based temperature sensors without additional components. It features low power sleep mode of ~<1mA and the ability to wake on voltage thresholds (e.g. from a temperature or pressure sensor) making it useful, for example, as a vehicle CAN wake up device on a button press.
The unit also features:
- 4 channel frequency and duty cycle for measuring PWM signals,
- 4 channel 6kHz pulse counters for shaft position and speed, with up to 1kHz CAN update rate, the unit can be used for traction control and ABS.
The automotive IP67 rugged case and connector allows use in harsh environments, alternatively, the A to D CAN Module is available without a case or connector – with pin header holes to solder flying leads directly to the board.
The configurable CAN bus speed and address along with the supplied DBC file allows easy addition into almost any CAN bus. The wide ranging input voltage and the small size and mass of the unit allows easy interface into most vehicles.
Available with or without the A to D Connection Kit.
Advanced A to D CAN Module for Precision Data Conversion
As modern engineering applications become more data-driven, the need for seamless integration between analogue sensors and digital control systems continues to grow. Responding to this demand, we have launched its latest innovation: a high-precision, CAN-based Analogue to Digital (A to D) module. Compact, rugged, and highly versatile, this module converts analogue signals into digital data for direct integration into Controller Area Network (CAN) systems across sectors such as automotive, marine, aerospace, energy storage, and industrial automation.
At the heart of the A to D module is an 8-channel, 12-bit analogue input system capable of reading 0–5V signals in ultra-fine 0.003V increments at sampling rates of up to 333Hz. Each channel features an integrated 10kΩ pull-down resistor, making it ideal for direct connection to resistance-based temperature sensors without needing external circuitry. This enables rapid deployment in both test benches and permanent CAN Bus installations.
The module excels in applications requiring accurate signal interpretation, such as monitoring temperature, pressure, position, or voltage, offering high fidelity data for diagnostics, performance tuning, and predictive maintenance.
Beyond analogue sensing, the A to D module features advanced digital capabilities, including:
4 PWM channels for reading frequency and duty cycle, ideal for interpreting output from engine or transmission sensors.
4 pulse counters capable of capturing shaft speed and position data at up to 6kHz, and broadcasting via CAN Bus at 1kHz, making it a valuable tool for traction control, ABS, and other real-time vehicle dynamics systems.
This fusion of analogue and digital input functionality in one unit makes the A to D module a flexible, all-in-one tool for a variety of applications, from motorsport telemetry to vehicle development platforms and prototype integration.
The module includes a low power sleep mode that consumes under 1mA, ideal for applications where continuous power availability is a concern. A standout feature is its ability to wake upon detecting voltage thresholds, such as from a pressure switch or temperature change, allowing it to function as a CAN Bus wake-up device, triggered by a button press or sensor event.
This capability is especially useful in electrified vehicles, where subsystems need to remain dormant until prompted by a specific event, thereby conserving energy and reducing system complexity.
Built for Real-World Conditions
Designed with reliability in mind, the module is housed in a robust IP67-rated enclosure and features an automotive-grade connector, ensuring durability in harsh environments such as engine bays, race cars, or marine installations. Its configurable CAN bus speed and address, along with a supplied CAN DBC file, ensures seamless integration into almost any CAN bus network.
Our Analogue to Digital (A to D) CAN Module is a versatile solution designed to bridge the gap between analogue sensors and digital CAN Bus-based systems. With its robust features and adaptability, it serves a multitude of applications across various industries.
Precision Data Acquisition
At the heart of the A to D CAN Module lies its capability to accurately convert analogue signals into digital data. Featuring eight 12-bit input channels, it measures 0–5V signals with a fine resolution of 0.003V and supports sampling rates up to 333Hz. Each channel is equipped with a 10kΩ pull-down resistor, facilitating direct connection to resistance-based sensors like thermistors without the need for additional circuitry.
Automotive and Motorsport Applications
In the automotive sector, the module’s ability to monitor parameters such as temperature, pressure, and voltage is invaluable. Its four-channel pulse counters, operating at frequencies up to 6kHz, are particularly suited for applications like traction control and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). The module’s low-power sleep mode (<1mA) and voltage threshold wake-up feature make it ideal for energy-efficient vehicle systems.
Industrial Automation and Energy Systems
For industrial automation, the A to D CAN Module enables precise monitoring of machinery and processes. Its compatibility with various sensors allows for real-time data acquisition, essential for predictive maintenance and system optimisation. In energy storage systems, it can monitor battery parameters, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Marine and Aerospace Integration
The module’s rugged design, featuring an IP67-rated connector, ensures reliable operation in harsh environments, making it suitable for marine and aerospace applications. Its compact form factor and configurable CAN bus settings allow for seamless integration into existing systems, facilitating monitoring of critical parameters in challenging conditions.
