Intelligent monitoring, not constant transmission

Air Wise includes an intelligent monitoring mode in which the sensor continuously observes environmental conditions but does not transmit on the CAN bus until a predefined threshold is exceeded. Once that threshold is crossed, it switches automatically to full active mode and can trigger a 500mA low side drive output to initiate a system response, such as increasing ventilation or issuing an alert. This approach keeps CAN bus traffic manageable during normal operation while ensuring the gas monitor responds instantly when conditions change.

Getting the sensitivity balance right

A gas monitor that is too sensitive becomes a nuisance, generating alerts and ventilation changes in response to background VOC levels that are present in almost any real world environment. One that is not sensitive enough misses the early signals it was installed to catch. Striking that balance is a genuine engineering challenge, and it is one reason Air Wise combines VOC sensing with nitrous oxide detection and, as an optional extra, carbon dioxide monitoring, so that a single reading is never the only basis for a control decision.

The sensor has been tested to ISO 7637-2:2011, ISO 16750-2:2012 and ISO 16750-4:2010, and can optionally be specified with a triple axis accelerometer rated to plus or minus 24g for applications where shock data adds further value. Air Wise is compatible with the Metis Nano Development Kit, allowing rapid desktop evaluation before committing to a full installation, and is supplied with a configurable CAN bus speed, address and DBC file for straightforward integration.
